Dr. Kafayah Ogunsola MB,BS, FWACP(Psych.) is a specialist physician- a Consultant Neuro-Psychiatrist, and the Founder/CEO of EmpathySpace Consulting Services whose active online arm @empathyspace.ng is in the fore front of raising awareness for and highlighting pertinent issues relating to mental illness. The goal is to improve help seeking behaviors for mental disorders amongst Nigerians and ultimately, de-stigmatize emotional illnesses in Nigeria. Her platform, Empathyspaceng currently enjoys one of the highest number of referrals and tags in cases of online psychological crisis particularly on Instagram & Twitter, thus it has helped to provide online psychological first-aid, counselling and referral services for those in need of further support to mental health professionals, any where in Nigeria. Popularly called the ‘Empathetic doctor’, she is widely known as a mental health influencer and advocate, who pioneered the use Nigerian languages (Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba), as a mental health advocacy tool. Dr. Kafayah, Consults for and is the Liaison and Logistics Director, for the Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (SURPIN), an Organization that uses tools such as provision of hotlines services, training, research and advocacy to reduce the spate of suicide in Nigeria.
Away from her online activities, She has empowered the general public, with mental health promotion and prevention information, through her activities as a Public speaker, Community Engager, Seminar Facilitator/Trainer and EAP Professional.
Her diverse work and interests in the field of psychiatry, extends to clinical activities such as psychotherapy and drug treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions with a fast growing private clientele. She is an avid researcher in areas of Suicidology, Adult, Child & Adolescent mental health.
She volunteers with as many NGO’s as will have her. Currently, she serves as the School Mental health Consultant for At-Tanzeel schools and is a member of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria.
