Christopher Bankole Ndubuisi Ogbogbo, lawyer, Professor & former Head of Department of History, University of Ibadan; Currently Director of Research , Nigerian Army Resource Center, Abuja, Vice -President, Association of African Historians, immediate past National President, Historical Society of Nigeria; Member Institute for Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Fellow, Historical Society of Nigeria and Fellow, Society for Peace Studies and Practice, Fellow, Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy; is a member of the Ibadan bar. Born in Lagos, he had his teething years in Lagos and Port Harcourt. He read History degrees at the University of Ibadan and law degrees at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Ogbogbo has lectured African History at Ibadan for the past 31 years. He has taught, researched and successfully supervised 13 Ph.D. theses in African History and in Peace and Conflict Studies and over 85 Masters Degree dissertations. As member of the Nigerian Bar Association, was a Public Relations Officer and Treasurer of the NBA Ibadan branch in the early 90s.
As a scholar, Ogbogbo is a widely travelled and published and has won several academic laurels and grants. In his kitty are the Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) grant 2005, MacArthur Foundation grant 2006, the University of Ibadan Senate Research grant 2007, and the Humanities Staff Development Grant 2015. He was a Visiting Scholar to Northwestern University Evanston, and Dartmouth College, (both in the USA), St. Augustine University of Tanzania, Mwanza and the University of Benin in Nigeria. He was appointed a Visiting Professor of African History in Kennesaw State University in Atlanta Georgia in 2014 and an adjunct Professor in Zhejiang Normal University, China in 2019. He has published in reputable academic journals and books. He is the current Editor- in- Chief of the Journal of the Historical Society of Nigeria, the Editor of Ibadan School of History Monograph Series and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Monograph Series. Ogbogbo has written copiously on the Niger Delta and the challenges of nation building in Nigeria.
He is a Consultant to several organizations such as the Federal Ministry of Education; Nigerian Education Research and Development Council; United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Deutsche Welle African Roots Project and a member of several academic bodies prominent amongst which are Ethnic Studies Network, Ireland; American Studies Association; Member, African Studies Association, U.S.A.; Historical Society of Nigeria; Nigerian Bar Association and the Society for Peace Studies & Practice. His passion is to see to the entrenchment of a sense of history in in Nigeria. He is married with children.
