Limited Capacity seats available

Hate speech is a global phenomenon, but parameters for defining it objectively in Nigeria where the government is intolerable of criticisms are quite unclear. How can it be regulated without misuse and abuse of power.

Every day young people across Africa are shaping and reshaping their identities. Each of them has their own perception of history – a past that defines them in many ways but often remains elusive. How do these personal histories blend in a general history of Africa? The session will bring together history and social media experts making the point of African Roots, DW’s multi-media series of portraits covering African history.

HOW TO COVER, PROMOTE AND BRAND WOMEN'S SPORT IN THE DIGITAL ERA
Limited Capacity seats available

Following the success rate of Canada 2015 and more recently, France 2019, Africa had one of the lowest coverage and cash dividends from the FIFA Women's World Cup. From coverage, branding and engagement perspective, traditional media in Africa had one of the lowest coverage of the tournament in the world.

2019 has been an amazing year of victories for women's sports. New clubs are being created, attendance records are being shattered but, at the core of it, most of the walls built against women's sports still stands.

There are so many sensitive issues surrounding the coverage of women's sports and social media has been a driving force in bringing these issues to light and serving as a platform for many of these conversations to be had. This session will explore how we, as fans, professional journalists and everyday sports enthusiasts, talk about women's football? How do you navigate these waters, understand it and profit from it?

According to industry experts, sports in Africa has a projected growth of 9.1% in the next 3-5 years and digital media is key to this growth. Furthermore, with women representing a significant percentage of the consumer market – through the combination of their buying power and influence – there is huge untapped potential in the female audiences of women’s sports. In this session we'll outline the opportunities the industry presents, and discuss how and fans, journalists and brands can thrive, profit and scale.
